Olfie is a brand of MERRI, in Australia. We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
This page is written to be read, not to be survived.
What we collect
- When you buy something: your name, email, phone number, delivery address and order details. Payment is handled by our payment provider. We never see or store your full card number.
- When you join a list: your email address, your first name, which list you joined and, if you give it, your dog’s name.
- When you contact us: whatever you tell us, plus your email or phone number so we can reply.
- When you order the Kit: her name and the two phone numbers you want engraved on the tag.
- When you use the site: standard technical information, such as pages viewed, device and browser type, and the information our ecommerce platform collects to run the store and keep your cart working.
Guardian details: please read this part
Olfie’s succession products involve a guardian: the person who would take your dog. Sometimes a customer wants to give us that person’s contact details.
Where you give us a guardian’s contact details, we will ask that guardian to confirm their own details themselves. We contact them once, we tell them who gave us their details and why, and we ask them to confirm. We do not take your word for someone else’s information and then quietly keep it. If they do not confirm, we delete what you gave us.
This matters for two reasons. The law requires us to tell a person when we collect their personal information from someone else. And more practically: a guardian who has not had the conversation is not really a guardian. Confirming their own details is the smallest possible version of having had it.
You do not have to give us anyone’s details to use the book. The book works perfectly well with nothing but your own handwriting in it.
Why we collect it
To make what you ordered, send it to you, answer you when you write, and, if you asked, tell you when something new exists. Nothing else.
Who we share it with
Only the people needed to do the above: our ecommerce platform, our payment provider, our email provider, the printers and engravers who make your order, and the post. Each gets the minimum they need. We do not sell your information and we do not trade it.
Some of these providers store data overseas, including in the United States. By using the store you accept that your information may be held outside Australia by them.
Marketing
We only email you about Olfie if you asked us to, or if you bought something and we are telling you about your order. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link and it works immediately. You can also just reply and say stop.
How long we keep it
Order and tax records: as long as Australian law requires us to. List subscriptions: until you unsubscribe. Enquiries: until they are resolved and a reasonable period after. Guardian details that were never confirmed: deleted.
